Stringing Materials

Elastic cord: The easiest option for beginners. Stretch magic or similar 0.8mmโ€“1mm elastic works well with 6โ€“10mm beads. Finish with a surgeon's knot and a dab of glue. No clasp needed.

Tiger Tail (beading wire): A nylon-coated stainless steel cable. Strong and kink-resistant, ideal for heavier stone beads. Finish with crimp beads and a clasp. Use .018"โ€“.024" diameter for most bracelet beads.

Silk thread: Traditional for pearls and delicate beads. Usually knotted between each bead for spacing and to prevent loss if the thread breaks. Needs a needle to thread and a clasp.

Finishing Techniques

Always cut 6+ extra inches of stringing material beyond your bracelet length to give yourself room to tie knots or attach crimps. For elastic, leave at least 4 inches of tail each side, knot firmly, and tuck the knot inside an adjacent bead hole. For beading wire, use crimping pliers (not regular pliers) to flatten crimp tubes securely without cracking them.
