How Proportion Planning Works
Color proportion planning lets you decide how much visual weight each fabric carries in your quilt. A dominant fabric at 50% will define the quilt's overall color story, while accent fabrics at 10โ15% add interest without competing. A common quilter's rule of thumb is 60-30-10: 60% dominant, 30% secondary, 10% accent.
Quilt Sizes Reference
| Size | Dimensions | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Baby Blanket | 36ร45" | Crib or stroller |
| Throw | 60ร80" | Sofa or lap quilt |
| Twin | 60ร90" | Twin bed with overhang |
| Queen | 90ร108" | Queen bed with full drop |
| King | 108ร108" | King bed with full drop |
Yardage is calculated assuming 44" usable fabric width. A 10% buffer is included for cutting waste, pre-wash shrinkage, and re-cuts. Always buy a little extra for your first cut of a new fabric.
