About Daily Hydration

The standard "8 glasses a day" rule is a rough guide. Actual needs vary significantly based on body size, how much you sweat, and environmental conditions. This calculator uses a weight-based formula adjusted for activity and climate.

Coffee and tea count. Despite the mild diuretic effect, research shows caffeinated drinks contribute net fluid. Aim for about 80% of your total from plain water.

Food hydrates too. Fruits and vegetables contribute roughly 20% of daily fluid intake — cucumbers, watermelon, lettuce, and strawberries are over 90% water.

Signs of adequate hydration: pale yellow urine, no persistent thirst, good energy levels. Dark urine or persistent headaches often signal dehydration.
