Why Weight Is More Accurate Than Volume
Measuring flour by volume (cups) is notoriously imprecise β a cup of flour can vary from 100g to 160g depending on how it was scooped and whether it was sifted. Professional bakers always weigh ingredients for consistent results.
The densities used in this tool are based on the "spoon and level" method: spoon flour gently into a measuring cup and level with a straight edge. Scooping directly compacts the flour and can add 20β30% more weight.
For sugar, "brown sugar packed" means pressing sugar firmly into the cup. "Unpacked" is spooned lightly. Always follow what your recipe specifies.
