Top, Middle & Base Note Guide
A well-balanced fragrance blend typically follows a 30 / 50 / 20 ratio across scent families:
Top Notes
~30%
Citrus, herbs, light florals โ first impression, evaporates fastest
Middle Notes
~50%
Florals, spice, fruit โ the heart of the blend, most prominent
Base Notes
~20%
Woods, musk, vanilla, amber โ longest lasting, anchors the blend
Blending Tips
Start with your base note, then add middle, then top. Smell the blend on a strip between each addition. A blend will smell different on cold test versus when heated in a candle โ always do a hot throw test before finalizing ratios.
Record every experiment. Even "failed" blends teach you how individual fragrances interact. Some combinations need 24โ48 hours to "marry" before the true scent emerges.
