Tassel Fringe

Tassel fringe is the most common type. Each strand is folded in half and looped through the edge of the fabric or project, then the two halves are pulled through the loop to secure. The cut length is therefore double the desired finished fringe length plus a small attachment allowance. Groups of 2โ€“4 strands are attached at each point for a fuller look.

Looped Fringe

Looped fringe creates a closed loop at the bottom rather than loose ends. The cord passes through the attachment point and its ends are secured back at the top, leaving the loop hanging freely. Cut lengths need to be slightly longer to account for the attachment wrapping. Looped fringe is popular for bags and pillows where the edge needs a cleaner look.

Twisted Fringe

Twisted fringe uses two or more strands twisted together before attaching. Because twisting shortens the effective length (a twisted strand is shorter than its original cut length), you must cut twisted fringe strands about 30% longer than the desired finished length. The twist also adds visual texture and prevents the fringe from tangling as easily as untwisted strands.
