📐 Score Differential formula: Score Differential = (Adjusted Gross Score − Course Rating) × 113 / Slope Rating. Your handicap index uses the average of the best 8 of your last 20 differentials, × 0.96 (the "playing conditions adjustment" factor). Maximum handicap index is 54.0 for both men and women.
Playing Handicap: Your handicap index is a portable measure of ability. A Playing Handicap is what you actually use on a specific course: (Handicap Index × Slope Rating / 113) + (Course Rating − Par). This adjusts your strokes for the difficulty of the course you're playing that day.
🏌️ Equitable Stroke Control (ESC): Under WHS, scores are "adjusted" using net double bogey as the maximum on any hole. This prevents a single blowup hole from dramatically inflating your handicap. It also means never recording more than double bogey + your handicap strokes on any hole.
