MOC Scale Guide

🧑 Minifig scale (1:48)

Most standard sets. A minifig represents an ~1.75m person. 1 stud = ~38cm in real life. Buildings need 15–20 studs of floor-to-ceiling height.

🏙️ Modular building scale (1:40)

LEGO Modular Buildings series uses slightly larger scale. 1 floor ≈ 12 bricks high (≈ 3m real world).

🌍 Microscale (1:100 to 1:500)

City skylines, world maps, large structures. 1 stud can represent 0.8–4m. Plates instead of bricks give detail.

🚂 Train scale (1:43 to 1:45)

LEGO trains are approximately 1:43–1:45. Slightly larger than minifig scale, creating the "cheater scale" proportions.

🚀 Technic / UCS (1:35 to 1:50)

LEGO UCS Star Wars sets aim for 1:35–1:50. Technic models vary widely. Check the set instructions for stated scale.

🏡 Miniland (1:20)

Used at LEGOLAND parks. Much larger figures. 1 stud ≈ 16cm in real life. Great for architectural detail.
📐 The 5:6 ratio: LEGO bricks are NOT perfect cubes. A stud is 8mm wide but a brick is 9.6mm tall (3.2mm plate × 3). This means 5 bricks tall ≈ 6 studs wide. Critical for building diagonal angles and roofs correctly.
🧱 Baseplate reference: A 32×32 baseplate is 25.6cm × 25.6cm (10.1" × 10.1"). A 48×48 baseplate is 38.4cm × 38.4cm — roughly the size of a large book.
