Viewing Tips

👁️
Dark AdaptationAllow 20 minutes for eyes to fully adapt to darkness. Even one glance at a phone screen resets the clock.
📱
No Phone ScreensUse a red-light torch if you need light. White light destroys dark adaptation instantly.
🛏️
Lie FlatLying on your back lets you watch the whole sky without neck strain. A sleeping bag makes this comfortable.
🌑
New Moon is BestA bright moon washes out fainter meteors. Check moon phase before planning your session.
🧭
Face Away from RadiantDon't stare at the radiant point. Face away to see longer meteor trails. The radiant shows where paths converge.
🌃
Dark Site MattersEven moving 20 km from city lights can double the meteors you see. Higher Bortle class = more meteors.
Peak After MidnightThe radiant rises higher after midnight. Most showers peak in the hours before dawn when Earth faces the debris stream head-on.
🌡️
Dress WarmlyYou will be stationary for hours. Temperatures feel much colder when lying still — dress for below-freezing even in summer.
