About One Rep Max Formulas
The Epley formula (1985) estimates 1RM as: weight ร (1 + reps / 30). It tends to be slightly more generous at higher rep counts.
The Brzycki formula calculates: weight / (1.0278 โ 0.0278 ร reps). It is considered most accurate for sets of 2โ10 reps and becomes less reliable above 10 reps.
These are estimates. Never attempt a true 1RM without a spotter and adequate warm-up. Use the percentage table for programming sub-maximal training loads.
