Choosing the Right Pool Fence

Pool fences are the single most effective safety barrier for preventing child drowning, which is why most states legally require them. The style you choose should balance safety, aesthetics, and budget.

Aluminum is the most popular choice — powder-coated, rust-proof, and low maintenance. It typically comes in 4 ft and 5 ft heights with picket spacing that meets code requirements out of the box.

Glass panel fencing provides an unobstructed view of the pool (great for watching children) and a premium modern aesthetic, but at 3–5× the cost of aluminum. Frameless glass is even more expensive.

Mesh safety fencing is the most affordable option and is removable — popular for rental properties or seasonal use. It doesn't anchor permanently, so verify it meets your local code for permanent barriers.
