Weight vs. Volume Measurement
Many resins specify their ratio by volume, but measuring by weight on a digital scale is far more accurate โ graduated cups have wide tolerances. However, you must use the manufacturer's weight ratio (not the volume ratio) when measuring by weight, as Part A and Part B often have different densities.
Always check your specific product's datasheet. A 2:1 volume ratio may be a different ratio by weight for the same product.
Pot Life Reference
| Resin Type | Typical Pot Life | Cure Time |
|---|---|---|
| Casting resin (thin pour) | 30โ45 min | 12โ24 hrs |
| Epoxy coating (table top) | 20โ30 min | 24โ72 hrs |
| UV resin | N/A (light activated) | 1โ5 min UV |
| Polyurethane (fast) | 3โ5 min | 30 min demold |
| Silicone | 10โ20 min | 4โ16 hrs |
Why Accuracy Matters
An off-ratio mix will not cure properly โ it may remain sticky, soft, or never harden at all. Even a few percentage points off can result in a failed pour. Use a scale with 0.1g accuracy for small batches.
