Retail Inventory Benchmarks
Sell-through rate (STR) = Units Sold / Units Received × 100. It tells you what percentage of your inventory has converted to sales.
- < 40% STR: Overstock risk — consider promotions or markdowns to free up cash and shelf space.
- 40–80% STR: Healthy sell-through — strong demand relative to supply. Reorder planning is appropriate.
- > 80% STR: Stockout risk — demand is outpacing supply. Consider expediting reorders or raising price.
Weeks of Supply = Units Remaining / (Units Sold / Weeks). This tells you how many weeks your current stock will last at the current sales velocity.
Fashion and seasonal categories often target 80%+ STR; basic replenishment items typically stay at 50–70% to avoid stockouts.
