How Influencer Rates Are Calculated

The most common baseline is the $10 per 1,000 followers rule (i.e., $10 CPM on follower count). But this is just the starting point — engagement rate and post type heavily modify the final rate.

CPM vs Flat Fee: CPM (cost per mille / thousand impressions) is used by brands running programmatic campaigns. Flat fees are standard for influencer deals because actual reach varies. Most creators negotiate flat fees based on their average reach, not just follower count.

Engagement multipliers reward creators who drive real audience action. A 6% ER creator should charge 2–3× what a 1% ER creator with the same follower count charges, because their posts actually convert.

Post type multipliers: Stories are ephemeral and quick to produce (0.3×). Feed posts are permanent portfolio pieces (1×). Reels/Shorts require video production but get algorithmic reach (1.5×). Long-form YouTube videos demand the most production time and offer the longest shelf life (2×).
