💰 Budget for alterations: A £20–30 budget for a tailor's touch on an off-the-rack suit can transform it. Sleeve length, trouser hem, and taking in the waist are all quick, affordable fixes.

🚩 Never alter: Shoulder fit is the most expensive and complex alteration — if the shoulders don't fit, don't buy the suit. Everything else can be fixed more easily.

👔 Buy for the shoulders first. The shoulder seam should sit exactly at the edge of your shoulder — not hanging off, not pulling in. Shoulder alterations are expensive and difficult; everything else can be tailored.
