📏 Lug-to-lug matters more than diameter: The lug-to-lug distance (the distance across the case from one lug tip to the other) determines whether a watch will hang over the edges of your wrist. Always check lug-to-lug against your wrist width. A 44mm watch with short lugs can wear smaller than a 40mm watch with long lugs.
🏊 Thickness and wearing comfort: Under 10mm is slim and slides under shirt cuffs. 10–12mm is versatile. Over 14mm starts to feel chunky and can catch on sleeves. Divers and chronographs are naturally thicker due to movement and crown complexity — this is expected.
📐 Proportions rule: As a general guideline, a case should not extend beyond the edges of your wrist. Measure your wrist width (side-to-side, not circumference) — this is the maximum lug-to-lug you should consider for a neat look. Many people break this rule intentionally for sportier styles.
